Hi dear 3e3,
I got our trusty boy EL rep, Cheng Feng, to spread the news, but just in case some of you may not have heard:
- Instead of an essay test for this Friday's double period lesson, we will have a Comprehension AND summary test which will take up your full two periods. The essay and situational writing test will follow in the coming week(s).
Just to refresh your memories, or in case you didn't know this, here are the papers you are required to take for your EL exam, whether End-Of-Year or for the "O"s next year:
Oral, consisting of Reading (12 marks), Picture Discussion (12) and Conversation (16)- 20%
Paper 1, consisting of Composition (30) and Situational Writing (30)
Paper 2, consisting of Comprehension (25) and Summary (25)
That's all for now! If you're reading this, drop a comment to say "Hi"!

Hi everyone...
Miss Lan here!
Welcome back to school! For some of you, I'm definitely not a new face. For others, I've never seen or taught you before. But I'm really glad to know you and to get to know you better this year and the next!
Okay, first things first... this blog will be mostly for announcements and little musings on the part of us teachers, but sometimes we'll set questions and expect you to get back to us in the comments section.
This first lesson will be for us (Miss Jaclyn Neo and me) to get to know all of you better, so that we can build a better foundation for your studies - and also for you all to get to know us too!
Without much further ado, because I know you guys like to do memes, here is one that I found online and thought was interesting:
1) Name: Lan Kailuo
2) Want to be known as: That's MISS LAN to you guys
3) One significant thing that happened to me this holiday (and DESCRIBE IT!) : I took a trip to South Africa, and witnessed the shooting of a wilderbeest, an impala and a bleesbok. We had taken a jeep to the ranch. Sitting on the back of the jeep, we were anxiously scanning the horizon for animals to shoot. (So call us murderers) And suddenly - out of the blue - we saw the silhouette of a majestic wilderbeest, its muscular body full of tension even as it grazed on the plains.
My friend lowered his gun to his shoulder and took a shot. Bang! Even as I took my fingers out of my ears, tears were already streaming down my cheeks.
4) What I hope to achieve this year (DESCRIBE and EXPLAIN!): I want to be the best teacher as possible to YOU (and my other classes). Of course, I want you to do well, and I'm gonna try my darndest so that even if you were to do badly, it's NOT MY FAULT! (haha) For my family, I want to show my love towards my parents, sisters, and my cat more than I did last year. How about you?
5) What 5 kinds of things make me happy, and WHY : Hmmm... many things make me happy. But here are, off the top of my mind, the 5 things that I can think of now -
- Basking in the sun like a lizard makes me happy, because I love being in the warmth of the sun. Besides, it's healthy for your skin! (And I am recently very much into skincare 'cos of my newly-found pimples...)
- My cat's purring makes me happy. She's just like my daughter and hearing her contented fills me with joy.
- Having the free time to snuggle up with a book makes me happy. I love reading because it broadens my mind and lets me enter a world so different from mine.
- Errr... this is getting hard. The sound of running water makes me happy. However "modern" your Miss Lan looks, she is a traditionalist at heart. And for the Chinese, running water stands for feng shui. Haha.
- Lastly, singing in the bathroom makes me happy. I know it doesn't make MANY OTHER people happy, but so what? Haha. I love the chance to exercise my vocal cords. Singing + running water (see above)... what's not to love?
All right, that's my meme, all finished and ready to go! Now's YOUR turn.
